Introduction

This directorate specializes in medical conditions of internal Medicine which are predominately diseases and health problems that affect the internal organs of the body. The directorate also handles Out-Patient medical services of diagnozing, examining, interpreting diagnostic tests and prescribing medications for patients treatment.

This includes the following:-

1. Nephrology: This involves the diagnosis, treatment and management of disorders affecting the kidney and urinary tract, including kidney failure, high blood pressure, inherited kidney diseases, kidney stones, urinary tract infections, and abnormalities in the urine such as blood and protein.

2. Pulmonology: This deals with diseases of the respiratory system.

3. GIT/Hepatology: This section of internal medicine deals with the diseases of the liver, bile ducts, gallbladder, salivary glands, the esophagus, stomach, and small intestines (duodenum, jejunum, and ileum).

4. Haematology: This is a branch of internal medicine that deals with diseases of the blood.

5. Endocrinology: This handles hormone-related diseases.

6. Neurology: This specializes in dealing with the diseases of the nervous system made up of the brain and spinal cord.

7. Reumatology: This is a branch of medicine devoted to the diagnosis and therapy of rheumatic diseases such as lupus, arthritis among others.

8. Psychiatry: This speciality deals with the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders.

9. Palliative: This is the exceptional medical care given to patients living with a serious illnesses.

10. Pharmacy: This is an internal medicine discipline that deals with preparing, dispensing, and reviewing drugs for patients treatment as per the medical prescriptions.

11. Nuclear Medicine: This involves the application of radioactive substances in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.

12. Dermatology: This specializes in treating and curing diseases of the skin such as eczema, psoriasis., acne, rosacea, ichthyosis among others.

13. Infectious Diseases: This branch of internal medicine specializes in diseases caused by organisms such as bacteria, viruses, fungi or parasites.

 

This includes the following:-

14. Public Health: This handles the improvement of communities' health through education, policy making and research for diseases and infection prevention.

14. Entomology: This manages the eradication of pests and insects with in the hospital especially in the wards and operating theaters.
